Belbin's Team Roles strategy is a model that helps to understand, identify, and utilize individual team member's strengths and weaknesses. It was developed by Dr. Meredith Belbin in 1981 and identifies nine key roles that are necessary for a team to function effectively: Plant, Resource Investigator, Coordinator, Shaper, Monitor Evaluator, Teamworker, Implementer, Completer Finisher, and Specialist. Each role has a specific set of strengths and allowable weaknesses. The idea is to ensure that all roles are covered within a team and that the team is balanced, as this leads to better performance.
