Question
Everyday processes that can be understood better through algorithms include following a recipe, sorting emails, planning a trip, or even making decisions. For instance, when following a recipe, we use an algorithm to determine the order and manner in which ingredients should be mixed. Similarly, email services use algorithms to sort emails into different categories such as primary, social, and promotions. In decision making, we often subconsciously use algorithms to weigh the pros and cons and make the best possible choice.

Algorithms can't guarantee a life without regret, but they show how our willingness to take risks is reduced by how much time we think (or know) we have to take them. When we are children, we explore our worlds and discover new things with great enthusiasm. As we grow older, we tend to rely on the "tried and true" decisions based on what we've learned, i.e. exploit them.
