Taiichi Ohno was an industrial engineer at Toyota in the 1950s. He developed the Kanban system, a method of managing workflow and production. The term Kanban comes from two Japanese words, 'Kan' which means sign, and 'Ban' which means board, aka 'signboard.' This system was instrumental in improving efficiency and productivity at Toyota.
