Question

How does the 'unconsciously incompetent' level of sales competency affect a salesperson's performance?

The 'unconsciously incompetent' level of sales competency is the first level where a salesperson is unaware of their lack of skills and knowledge. This can negatively affect their performance as they might make mistakes without realizing it, leading to potential lost sales or customer dissatisfaction. However, it's also a stage of learning and growth. Once they move to the next level, 'consciously incompetent', they become aware of their shortcomings and can start to address them.

This question was asked on:

"There are four levels of competency in sales. Level one is 'unconsciously incompetent.' At first, you don't even know what you don't know. Level two is 'consciously incompetent.' You become aware of your shortcomings and address them. Level three is 'consciously competent.' With careful consideration and thoughtfulness, you can be confident in your abilities to sell. Level four is 'unconsciously competent.' You reach a level where talking about the sale becomes second nature."
