Serverless computing is a cloud computing model where the cloud provider dynamically manages the allocation and provisioning of servers. A serverless application runs in stateless compute containers that are event-triggered, ephemeral, and fully managed by the cloud provider. It allows developers to focus on their core product instead of worrying about managing and operating servers or runtimes, either in the cloud or on-premises. This reduced overhead lets developers reclaim time and energy that can be spent on developing great products which scale and that are reliable. In terms of digital transformation, serverless computing can significantly speed up the process as it allows for quicker software releases, provides scalability and can reduce costs. It also allows companies to focus more on user needs rather than on infrastructure.
