The conflict with Onitsuka was a significant turning point for Nike. Onitsuka, the Japanese supplier that had been manufacturing Tiger shoes for Blue Ribbon (Nike's original name), declared Nike in breach of contract when Nike decided to bring out its own shoes. This was a major challenge for Nike, as it threatened the company's survival. However, it also pushed Nike to become independent and start manufacturing its own products, which eventually led to the creation of the iconic Nike brand we know today.
